AHERI – EABC Partnership to transform East Africa into a knowledge-based economy.

Africa Higher Education Research Institute (AHERI) and the East African Business Council (EABC)  signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote Higher Education and Industrial growth in the EAC and the continent.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Institute Director Robert Owino said “Harmonization of the education system and research in Africa is important in the actualization of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).” Mr. Owino further called for 4% of Gross Domestic Product to be allocated to research and development; noting that Africa’s research and development funding was only 0.42% of GDP (2019).

ohn Bosco Kalisa, CEO of EABC told journalists in Nairobi, Kenya, that the signed agreement is a roadmap for participation in joint research projects that will improve East Africa’s innovation of  services and new products required for  continental and global market requirements.

This agreement will contribute to the growth and development of east African business as the joint resource mobilization and development of the education sector in the country, will increase the  talent and manpower required toimprove economies in the region.

In attendance were: Mr. John B. Kalisa – CEO, East African Business Council, Mr. Robert Owino- Excecutive Director (AHERI), Mr. Barrack Otieno – ICT Director (AHERI) and Mr. Brian Kalekye – National Liaison Officer, East African Business Council.

I am a specialists in running of Innovation research Incubation centers. In order to foster stronger linkages between AHERI and institutions of higher learning the concept of data mining of past academic research findings from both the staffs and students’ dissertation/theses which are worth implementing, of cause with the acknowledgement of respective researchers.; Most of these findings lie dormant in institutions of higher learning Special Collection sections of their libraries. AHERI needs to initiate a dialogue with institutions especially universities to access these dormant publications for the purposes of transforming them into useful products.
