ITU-UK Kenya Digital Access Programme Partners’ Open Day: “Partnering for Effective Connectivity and Broader Digital Inclusion”

Mr. Owino shared experiences & best practices learnt on the frontlines courtesy of AHERI Community Networks while highlighting the need for partnerships in addressing the last mile connectivity gaps in technical expertise and infrastructure gaps. Through community engagement at the local level, AHERI has had dialogues with community level stakeholders including schools and tertiary learning institutions. Through such fora, the Institute has been able to contextualize their connectivity needs while also educating them on the value of internet connectivity.
Mr. Owino was joined in this panel discussion by Christopher Kemei, Director/Licensing, Compliance & Standards at Communications Authority of Kenya; Christine Sund, International Telecommunication Union (ITU); Ben Roberts (virtual), Liquid Intelligent Technologies and, David Mulongo of Viscar Industrial Capacity Limited. The session was moderated by Kagwiria Nkonge, ITU-FCDO National Project Officer – Kenya.
Mr. Barrack Otieno – AHERI Information Technology Director moderated a session on “Supply and Demand – Digital government services, local relevant digital content and digital literacy & skills.” This panel consisted of distinguished panelisits that included: Phillip Irode, Deputy Director, Information Security, ICT Authority (ICTA); Martin Mugambi, Huduma Kenya; Anthony Nzuki, CEO, Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK); Jennifer Cotter Otieno, CEO, Edtech Hub and Constantine Obuya, Executive Director, The African Centre for Women, Information and Communications Technology (ACWICT).
The ITU-UK Kenya DAP Partners Open Day took place on 4th May 2022 at Strathmore University, Nairobi Kenya. The event was convened by The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in collaboration with Kenya ICT Action Network (KICTANet) and United Kingdom’s Digital Access Programme (DAP) partners in Kenya.
The event aims to strengthen partnerships around the Digital Access Programme among existing DAP partners and beyond.
